Google's false encryption ads continue unabated, with a phishing site impersonating Uniswap stealing another $400,000

On-chain analyst "b-block" posted on social media on Monday that a counterfeit Uniswap website is stealing funds from multiple wallets, with assets held by the scammers valued at over $400,000. Stacy Muur, founder of the Web3 marketing agency Green Dots, shared screenshots of false sponsored results from search engines, criticizing Google for ignoring this issue for years, leading to fake links ranking above real ones, resulting in users continuously being scammed.According to Etherscan data, the two flagged addresses hold a total of about 146 ETH, valued at approximately $306,000. DeFiLlama pointed out that fake ads on Google are a common source of phishing attacks. The crypto nonprofit organization Security Alliance (SEAL) reported in April that phishing activities on Google searches significantly increased in March, with attackers deploying highly deceptive fake ads by paying for or hijacking legitimate ad accounts, using seemingly real URLs to bypass Google's automatic checks, and loading malicious payloads through hidden iframes.SEAL has blocked over 356 malicious ad links and stated that the volume of Google ads deployed by attackers has remained stable for over a year, with no slowdown in attack activities. Reports indicate that between March 13 and 30 alone, a total of $1.27 million was stolen. Additionally, earlier this month, there were malicious ad campaigns targeting Mac users that utilized Google ads and the AI chatbot Claude for shared chats. Malwarebytes also reported that Facebook is similarly a hotspot for fake ads and scams.

Online shopping for USDT was scammed, and the police in Hunan, China helped recover and return all the involved funds

According to the Hunan Daily, on February 9 at around 8 PM, the public security agency in Baojing, Hunan Province, China, received a report from a victim, Mr. Liu, from another province who had been scammed. He claimed that he was defrauded while purchasing virtual currency USDT online, with a total loss of 100,000 yuan. After receiving the report, the Baojing County Public Security Bureau dispatched a team of elite officers to form a special investigation group and began investigating the case overnight. The investigating officers used various investigative methods to ultimately identify the suspect as Shi. Upon investigation, it was found that the suspect Shi had no fixed income and did not possess qualifications for virtual currency trading. To defraud others, he collected screenshots of others trading coins online, forged false profit records, and impersonated a senior "coin dealer" to gain their trust. Victim Mr. Liu believed him and transferred 100,000 yuan to the account designated by Shi. After receiving the payment, Shi did not deliver the virtual currency; instead, he used part of the funds for gambling and squandered the rest, splitting and hiding the remaining funds. The investigating officers quickly identified Shi's identity and activities by accurately analyzing the flow of funds and comprehensively securing evidence related to the case. They decisively acted on the night of the report and successfully apprehended Shi. The next day, the case was officially filed for investigation. After solving the case, the police consistently adhered to the principle of "solving the case and recovering losses equally," patiently conducted legal policy education, and actively mobilized the suspect's family to cooperate in the restitution, ultimately recovering the full amount of 100,000 yuan involved in the case. On the morning of May 14, the 100,000 yuan of fraudulently obtained funds was fully returned to victim Mr. Liu. Currently, the suspect Shi has been subjected to criminal coercive measures for suspected fraud, and the case is under further investigation.

The Korean FSC is reviewing whether Hana Bank's acquisition of Dunamu shares violates regulatory rules

According to iNews24, the Financial Services Commission (FSC) of South Korea is reviewing whether Hana Bank's acquisition of Dunamu shares violates the "separation of finance and virtual assets" regulatory rules. The virtual assets department of the Financial Services Commission stated that Hana Bank indirectly holds shares in Dunamu through its acquisition of Kakao Investment shares, which is essentially an investment in a virtual asset exchange and will be examined under the same standards.Since 2017, the South Korean government has prohibited financial institutions from holding, purchasing virtual assets, or making equity investments through administrative guidance. If a violation occurs, Hana Bank may not be able to complete the transaction. Future Asset Consulting is advancing the acquisition of Kobit's operating rights, and Korea Investment & Securities is also taking a cautious approach. Hana Bank previously announced the acquisition of a 6.55% stake in Dunamu but did not consult with the authorities beforehand.Currently, the "separation of finance and virtual assets" regulation has not yet been codified into law, and it is uncertain whether related provisions will be included in the digital asset bill. Legislative discussions may advance after the National Assembly reconvenes in September at the earliest.
