first_img The end of the MiCA transition period poses a survival crisis for the Polish cryptocurrency industry

Morphic Financial Group founder and CEO Mateusz Kara wrote in CoinDesk that the MiCA transition period ended on July 1, and the Polish Ministry of Finance confirmed that existing virtual currency registrations no longer constitute a legal basis for VASP or CASP operations. Crypto services can only be provided by entities holding valid MiCA authorization. Poland previously had about 2,000 registered virtual asset service providers, but a domestic political deadlock prevented the establishment of a viable authorization pathway. Germany issued 57 licenses, France and the Netherlands each issued 26, while Greece, Hungary, Poland, and Romania collectively issued zero.Kara stated that Polish investors hold about 9.4 billion euros in digital assets, and the relocation of businesses will lead to the loss of compliance teams, capital, and investments, with rebuilding the ecosystem potentially taking years. The compliance costs for MiCA can reach up to 700,000 euros, and serious violations could face fines of several million euros, narrowing the space for small participants. However, he believes that MiCA will be beneficial for the European crypto industry in the long term, as accelerated consolidation will eliminate weak operators and create a safer market. The UK's FCA is also launching a similar system, but Poland may become a sales market for others rather than an active participant in European digital finance construction.

first_img Etherealize CEO warns Wall Street about the revival of alliance chains: Fragmenting the ecosystem will undermine blockchain interoperability

Vitalik Buterin and Etherealize co-founder and CEO Vivek Raman, supported by the Ethereum Foundation, warned that Wall Street's renewed enthusiasm for private, permissioned "consortium chains" is recreating a fragmented system, undermining the interoperability and liquidity that blockchain should bring, akin to "race to the bottom." He pointed out the rise of gated networks such as Digital Asset's Canton Network, Circle's ARC, and Stripe's Tempo, reminiscent of the R3 and Hyperledger consortium chains 2.0 from years past, where institutions will ultimately find themselves in a situation of competing consortium chains, needing permission or membership to participate.Raman emphasized that the Ethereum mainnet should serve as a globally open, permissionless foundation layer similar to HTTP, where institutions can overlay permission and privacy features at the application layer or L2 to achieve maximum interoperability and liquidity. Etherealize is committed to attracting TradFi to embrace Ethereum, which has already hosted billions of dollars in tokenized assets and supported a large amount of DeFi settlements. The company received seed funding from Buterin and the foundation in January 2025 and completed a $40 million Series A financing in the same year.He cited examples such as BlackRock's new fund based on Ethereum, stating that once regulations are clear, institutional funds are more inclined towards open network tracks that are not proprietary; choosing consortium chains would require paying the consortium and being bound by its rules, with incentives for non-early members quickly fading. Christian Catalini, founder of the MIT Cryptoeconomics Lab, also pointed out that if permissioned networks driven by enterprise sales become mainstream, some competitive benefits of blockchain may not be realized.

hot_img Bloomberg: The AI investment boom intensifies the differentiation in the venture capital market, with small and medium-sized funds facing survival challenges

According to Bloomberg, the current venture capital market is experiencing significant structural differentiation. As funds concentrate on top artificial intelligence startups, many small and medium-sized venture capital funds are facing severe challenges such as fundraising difficulties, declining performance, and narrowing exit channels. The report points out that the excessive hype around artificial intelligence has distorted the venture capital market. Data shows that just five companies—OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI, Waymo, and Nscale—accounted for 78% of all venture capital transaction volume in the first quarter of this year. A large amount of capital has flowed to a few top investors who made early bets on AI, such as Founders Fund and Andreessen Horowitz, while small emerging fund managers find it difficult to compete with these leading institutions. This differentiation is directly reflected in fundraising data. Last year, newly established management companies (managing three or fewer funds) raised only about $62 billion, a significant drop of about 60% compared to the pandemic peak of $163.4 billion in 2022. Even experienced management teams raised only $84 billion last year, which is just one-third of the amount in 2022. Many LPs are facing liquidity pressures and are more inclined to demand returns on existing investments rather than commit new funds.

first_img Analysis: After the halving, operational efficiency is no longer sufficient to determine the survival of mining companies, and Bitcoin collateral is replacing direct selling

A report jointly released by the Bitcoin collateral lending platform CoinRabbit and the computing power platform GoMining points out that managing Bitcoin is more important than mining it. As the block reward drops to 3.125 BTC and the overall network difficulty approaches historical highs, low electricity prices and high uptime only constitute a survival baseline. What truly differentiates mining companies is the method of handling Bitcoin after it is mined. The report suggests that mining companies are shifting from direct sales to collateralized lending to cover recurring expenses such as electricity, custody, and labor. This approach retains exposure to holding Bitcoin while generating cash flow, avoids taxable sales, and preserves the deduction space for operating expenses. The trade-off is that mining companies simultaneously bear the dual risks of price and liquidation when Bitcoin prices decline.Jeremy Dreier, Chief Business Development Officer of GoMining, stated that the miners who can succeed after the halving are those who operate efficiently and have set aside cash in advance for this purpose. The current decline in Bitcoin prices has actually lowered the cost of increasing computing power, creating a window of opportunity for investing in expanding mining machines.

Changxin Technology's global DRAM market share reaches 9%, with the 15% "survival line" being key to entering the top tier

According to the latest report released by market research firm Counterpoint Research, Chinese memory chip giant Changxin Technology (CXMT) currently holds a 9% share of the global DRAM market (by bit shipments), and this figure is expected to rise to 11% by 2028 (with a revenue share of 9%). The report indicates that Changxin Technology is transitioning from an industry "challenger" to a "strategic player," with a long-term goal of achieving a bit shipment share of 20% and a revenue share of 15% by 2035.However, the report emphasizes that to truly establish a foothold in the global memory market and join the ranks of the "big three DRAM manufacturers," Changxin Technology must cross the global market share threshold of 15% to 17% (about one-sixth). Historical experience shows that in 2008, Taiwanese DRAM manufacturers could not secure the massive funding needed for the research and development of the next generation of fabs after their market share fell below 15%, ultimately causing their market share to plummet to the edge of 3%. Therefore, the 15% share is seen as the core survival line for Changxin Technology to ensure sustainable development and self-sustaining capabilities in the medium to long term.To cross this threshold, Changxin Technology is leveraging newly raised funds to accelerate capacity expansion, planning to double its capacity by 2030 and triple it by 2035. Although facing external challenges such as U.S. equipment export controls and global supply chain access, analysts believe these restrictions may instead act as catalysts, forcing Changxin Technology to accelerate independent innovation in cutting-edge technologies such as Vertical Channel Transistors (VCT) and Wafer-on-Wafer bonding, thereby narrowing the gap with industry leaders.

Nearly four years after Do Kwon was imprisoned, there are still community members steadfastly supporting Terra Luna Classic and looking forward to an "epic revival."

According to Decrypt, although Do Kwon, the founder of Terraform Labs, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for causing the collapse of Terra, which resulted in approximately $40 billion in losses, the abandoned original chain Terra Luna Classic (LUNC) has not disappeared. A group of community members continues to maintain the network, hoping to achieve one of the greatest revivals in the history of the cryptocurrency industry. The report states that a core community member known by the pseudonym "Vegas" lost about $50,000 during the Terra collapse and has since been involved in operating validation nodes, governance proposals, and developer coordination. He expressed that despite facing long-term internal power struggles and fraud accusations, and even being maliciously reported to the authorities, he still believes LUNC has the potential to return to the top ten in the cryptocurrency industry. After the Terra collapse in 2022, Terraform Labs launched a new chain, Terra, through a hard fork, while the original chain was retained and renamed Terra Luna Classic. Subsequently, the community organization Terra Rebels took over the maintenance work and launched a series of proposals, including a 1.2% burn tax, in hopes of revitalizing the ecosystem. However, due to disputes over fund allocation and governance, Terra Rebels eventually disbanded, and several developers left one after another.Despite this, the community continues to advance the development of projects such as lending protocols, games, and meme coins, and attempts to restore the stablecoin peg mechanism. Data shows that LUNC has risen 17.3% in the past year, but has cumulatively fallen 28.7% since 2022, with a decline of 99.99% from its historical high of $119.Some community members stated that the shared trauma after the collapse has formed a bond similar to "family," and that price is no longer the only goal. "What if we could achieve one of the greatest comebacks in cryptocurrency history? It's like a last-ditch pass." said a community member.
