first_img Consensys launched a sovereign network interoperability technology stack at Devcon

On November 2, the agreement with the institutional infrastructure company Consensys announced the launch of Sovereign Network Interoperability in Mumbai, India at Devcon, aimed at routing and coordinating transactions between independently operated institutional ledgers. This product is targeted at banks, custodians, asset managers, and financial market infrastructure, covering routing, execution coordination, and transaction tracking. Institutions can specify transaction counterparts, approved counterparties, and settlement requirements, with the product selecting eligible paths and tracking to completion. The technology stack supports four types of institutional processes: collateral allocation, connecting assets with collateral platforms, submitting eligible collateral to clearinghouses or other approved counterparties; securities settlement, coordinating the delivery of tokenized securities on one ledger against payment on another ledger through payment versus payment; wholesale and cross-currency payments, connecting bank currency ledgers to coordinate foreign exchange transactions under agreed payment versus payment conditions; fund and asset services, connecting funds with banking platforms, allowing corporate treasurers to transfer idle cash into tokenized money market funds and back at any time, and settling fund shares in tokenized deposits in a single step.No-bridge interoperability is its core design principle, keeping assets on their native ledgers, with cross-ledger state and execution verified through cryptography, eliminating the need for additional trusted intermediaries. The core protocol is Consensys's cross-ledger interoperability protocol CLIP, which plans to support Ethereum economic zone standards, cross-chain communication protocol IBC, and other protocols, while also planning to connect Canton with Ethereum-compatible networks. Currently, EVM-based chains are supported, with Canton to be integrated later. Institutions can operate independently, operate through financial market infrastructure, or choose Consensys's custody services. Consensys President David Cunningham stated that institutions need to reach counterparties without sacrificing privacy and while maintaining control over their own infrastructure.

first_img Consensys and ClearToken plan to collaborate to promote around-the-clock settlement of tokenized securities

On October 8, blockchain software company Consensys and post-trade infrastructure company ClearToken announced a collaboration aimed at enabling banks to transfer tokenized assets and cash through 24/7 infrastructure. The two parties plan to connect Consensys's blockchain system with ClearToken's regulated post-trade entities for the settlement of eligible securities using fiat currency, tokenized bank deposits, or stablecoins. The announcement did not put a new public blockchain or settlement venue into production but outlined how the two parties plan to connect tokenization, wallets, distribution, cash flow, and the legal finality of securities settlement. Consensys will provide cryptographic finality, which is the technical certainty that on-chain transactions are immutable; ClearToken is responsible for settlement finality, which is the legal certainty that the transfer of funds or securities is final and irrevocable. ClearToken's securities custody has passed Gate 2 of the Bank of England's Digital Securities Sandbox, and its independent clearing entity still requires authorization from the Bank of England.ClearToken CSD Limited plans to convert eligible securities held by different banks into interchangeable tokenized instruments, using the same ISIN as the corresponding traditional securities. At launch, the custody plan will support FTSE 350 stocks, GBP government bonds, GBP corporate bonds, and non-GBP corporate bonds. The sandbox custody limits are set at £600 million for government bonds, £900 million for GBP corporate bonds, and £1.8 billion for non-GBP corporate bonds. The announcement did not name participating banks, networks, wallet products, or the date of the first transaction.

first_img IBM will connect Digital Asset Haven to the Swift shared ledger, supporting tokenized deposit transactions

IBM announced that customers of its digital asset management platform IBM Digital Asset Haven can now connect to permissioned blockchain networks, including the blockchain-based shared ledger from Swift. A new beta version of the ISO 20022 message adapter allows financial institutions to initiate tokenized deposit transactions through this ledger using standard payment messages. IBM stated that financial institutions participating in Swift-related programs have tested tokenized deposits on this ledger using Digital Asset Haven. The ledger supports tokenized deposits issued by banks, enabling participating IBM clients to transfer digital assets around the clock, with final settlement still completed through existing systems.Swift first announced this ledger at Sibos 2025, based on a prototype developed in collaboration with Consensys, with over 40 financial institutions involved in its design, 17 of which are participating in the tokenized deposit pilot. Swift currently connects over 12,500 financial institutions across more than 200 markets worldwide. The aforementioned message adapter allows banks to continue using existing payment message formats and operational processes without adopting blockchain-specific workflows.IBM is also expanding Digital Asset Haven to a localized deployment beta version, which can be installed on IBM Z and IBM LinuxONE in the client's own data center for managing digital assets such as stablecoins and tokenized deposits, without relying on public cloud infrastructure. IBM stated that the platform and key management layer are fully retained within the client's own environment, with keys protected by IBM Crypto Express hardware security modules.
