first_img Metaplanet CEO responds to equity incentive doubts, shareholders say key issues remain unresolved

The CEO of Bitcoin Reserve Company Metaplanet, Simon Gerovich, posted on the X platform in response to the controversy surrounding the company's equity incentive plan and MMXX Ventures. Gerovich admitted that the company "failed to adequately explain" the incentive arrangement known as "Series 10 Stock Options" and stated that he is a "significant but non-controlling shareholder" of MMXX's parent company, not involved in its trading decisions. The controversy stems from a stock rights plan established in December 2022, with a reward pool set at 20% of Metaplanet's fully diluted equity. After shifting to a Bitcoin reserve strategy in April 2024, the company dilutes existing shareholders with each new share issuance, while Gerovich's option rights increase accordingly. On August 18, the board canceled the floating adjustment mechanism, fixing the Series 10 pool at 319 million shares and setting a five-year lock-up period, but did not restore the reward pool to the level it was at when the Bitcoin strategy was initiated. On August 28, Gerovich exercised 92,000 Series 10 options, acquiring 64 million new shares, and currently holds about 6.2% of the company; he and MMXX together hold over 27% of the fully diluted equity.Shareholders expressed dissatisfaction. A shareholder using the pseudonym The Bitcoin Pharaoh stated on X that the adjustments in August were "a step in the right direction," but demanded that Gerovich address the issues that have arisen, disclose the owners of MMXX, and restore the reward pool to the level it was at when the Bitcoin strategy was initiated.

first_img Hacken Report: Half of USDT is controlled by only two signing keys

Blockchain security company Hacken released an assessment report indicating that approximately half of the circulating USDT (about $91.3 billion on the Tron network) is controlled by a 2-of-3 multi-signature contract, which lacks built-in delays, cancellation processes, or reliable revocation mechanisms. Attackers only need to compromise two signature keys to change contract ownership, mint tokens, freeze addresses, clear frozen balances, or set transfer fees without accessing any user wallets. Hacken also discovered that Tether reuses the same set of six signature keys across three chains: Ethereum, Avalanche, and Celo, posing a risk of cross-chain spread.Meanwhile, stablecoin rating agency Bluechip upgraded Tether's company rating from D to C, citing that KPMG's audit showed Tether's reserves exceeded liabilities by $6.8 billion as of December 31, 2025. This is the first time Bluechip has adopted the expanded SMIDGE methodology, which incorporates Hacken's technical risk analysis. However, Hacken only gave USDT a cybersecurity score of 3.3 out of 10 and pointed out that the USDT smart contract does not have automatic reserve proof checks or a token minting cap. Once signers authorize a transaction, the contract can mint an unlimited number of tokens without a bank reserve proof.Hacken stated that it has not yet completed an equivalent assessment of Circle's USDC, and Bluechip's previous B+ rating for USDC was based on an old methodology, which cannot be directly used for technical comparison.

Garrett Jin: Bitcoin holds key support, maintaining a constructive outlook before the end of the year under macro pressures

BTC OG insider whale agent Garrett Jin released a market outlook indicating that the macro environment has clearly tightened this week, with Brent crude oil approaching $95, and the yield on the U.S. 10-year Treasury bond breaking through 4.8%. The market's expectation of a rate hike by the Federal Reserve in September has risen to about 70%. Bitcoin has slightly retraced under this pressure but successfully held the key support level of $76,600, then rebounded to the high range of $77,000.On-chain cost basis data shows that a significant amount of new supply has formed in the $75,000 to $80,000 range, providing strong support for the market; the $80,000 to $82,500 range is currently the largest concentration of resistance. A daily close above $82,500 and a successful retest confirmation will be a key signal for supply clearance. In terms of ETF liquidity, there was a net inflow of about $3.5 billion into U.S. spot ETFs in August, but a two-way flow has appeared at the start of September, with a net outflow of about $237 million on Tuesday, and retail activity has also cooled down.Regarding downside risks, if the daily close falls below $76,600, and ETF flows, Coinbase premiums, and 7-day net realized profits all weaken simultaneously, it will be seen as a clear warning signal. This Friday's non-farm payroll data will be the next important macro testing point; if the data is hot, it will strengthen rate hike expectations, and the $76,600 support may come under pressure again.

Bitget CFD Chief Analyst: Waller's hawkish speech raises expectations for "higher interest rates to last longer," making the dollar and U.S. Treasury yields key to the market

Bitget CFD Chief Analyst Lewis Huang stated that the hawkish remarks made by Powell at the Jackson Hole global central bank conference have shifted the market's focus from whether there will be a rate hike in September to the possibility that the Federal Reserve may maintain high interest rates for a longer period before inflation clearly falls back to the 2% target, and even retain the option for further tightening of policies.Lewis Huang pointed out that if subsequent CPI, PCE, and employment data continue to be strong, the U.S. 2-year Treasury yield and the dollar index may remain strong, putting continued pressure on gold from the dual forces of rising real interest rates and a strengthening dollar, which may also amplify the volatility of high-valuation tech stocks like the Nasdaq 100.Conversely, if inflation significantly cools and the labor market weakens, the market may lower its rate hike expectations, leading to a decline in the dollar and U.S. Treasury yields, providing support for gold and growth stocks. He added that besides the Federal Reserve's policy statements, traders should also pay attention to whether the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield is influenced by factors such as fiscal deficits, Treasury supply, and rising term premiums. Before and after the release of major data, it is recommended to moderately control leverage and assess market direction based on the interrelationship between the dollar, U.S. Treasury yields, gold, and stock indices.
