Coinbase supports the endorsement of 32 midterm election candidates by cryptocurrency advocacy organizations, all of whom support the passage of the CLARITY Act

According to Reuters, the cryptocurrency advocacy organization Stand With Crypto, supported by Coinbase, announced endorsements for 32 incumbent congressional candidates for the midterm elections in November. All 32 candidates voted last year in favor of sending the cryptocurrency industry's top legislative priority, the CLARITY Act, out of the House of Representatives, which is currently stalled in the Senate due to opposition from some lawmakers. The list includes key allies in the cryptocurrency industry such as Republican Representatives Tom Emmer and Bill Huizenga, as well as Democratic Representatives Ritchie Torres and Josh Gottheimer, some of whom are facing fiercely competitive races.Mason Lynaugh, Executive Director of Stand With Crypto, stated, "In 2024, we proved that crypto voters are real, and in 2026, we want to demonstrate our organizational mobilization ability; our advocates are a voting bloc that can truly impact outcomes."Stand With Crypto was launched by Coinbase in 2023 to influence elections by mobilizing voters rather than through large-scale campaign spending, and it claims to have over 3 million registered "advocates." In 2024, the cryptocurrency industry invested $170 million to support congressional candidates, most of whom won, and pushed Congress to pass the GENIUS Act for stablecoin regulation. During this midterm election cycle, the cryptocurrency industry has already invested nearly $200 million through channels such as the Fairshake super PAC to continue solidifying its influence in Congress.

Slow Mist Reveals Details of the Allbridge Cross-Chain Bridge Attack: Forged CCTP Messages, Flash Loans, Insufficient Minting Result Verification

The Slow Mist security team disclosed that the cross-chain bridge project Allbridge was attacked on August 19, 2026, resulting in a loss of approximately $190,000. Notably, this attack was not executed instantly; the attacker had begun laying the groundwork nearly a month prior and bypassed the verification mechanism by forging cross-chain messages. According to Slow Mist's analysis, on July 26, the attacker directly called Circle's MessageTransmitterV2.sendMessage function on the Polygon chain, constructing a cross-chain message disguised as a CCTP style message, claiming that a transfer of 1 million USDC existed, but in reality, no USDC destruction operation took place. Subsequently, Circle generated a valid verification proof (attestation) for this complete message according to normal procedures.About 24 days later, on August 19, the attacker waited for the Base Router to receive a real CCTP deposit, increasing the balance to approximately 191,000 USDC, and initiated the attack just 6 seconds later. The attacker utilized the previously forged message and verification proof to call Allbridge's receiveCctpMessage function. Due to the project's lack of critical verification, the system mistakenly recognized the false cross-chain message as a real deposit and recorded a limit of 1 million USDC. The attacker then temporarily borrowed approximately 809,000 USDC through an Aave flash loan, matching the Router balance with the forged amount, and used the internal credit record to call the transfer function, ultimately transferring out approximately 999,000 USDC (after a 0.1% fee). After repaying the flash loan and fees, the attacker netted a profit of about $189,800. The root cause of this vulnerability lies in Allbridge's failure to verify the identities of the sender and receiver of the cross-chain message, as well as not confirming whether USDC was genuinely minted and whether the balance actually increased, instead directly trusting the amounts and message hash data constructed by the attacker. Slow Mist emphasizes that on-chain message verification does not equate to the actual arrival of real assets. Cross-chain protocols not only need to verify the authenticity of messages but must also ensure that the message source is trustworthy, that the receiver is Circle's official TokenMessengerV2, and that asset accounting can only proceed after confirming the actual minting of assets and changes in balance. This incident once again highlights the security risks of cross-chain bridges in the message verification and asset settlement processes.

hot_img Overview of Trump's positive statements on cryptocurrency: Revealed that the U.S. government has discussed accumulating a substantial amount of Bitcoin; completely ending the war on cryptocurrency; urging the swift passage of the "Genius Act."

On Wednesday local time, U.S. President Trump met with executives from cryptocurrency and fintech companies such as Coinbase, Ripple, Robinhood, Gemini, and Chainlink in the Roosevelt Room of the White House and delivered a speech in support of cryptocurrencies.Trump stated that his administration has "completely ended the war on cryptocurrencies," and the industry is thriving. The U.S. must maintain its "undisputed leadership" in areas such as Bitcoin, cryptocurrencies, prediction markets, and artificial intelligence, and is committed to becoming the "world capital of cryptocurrency."He mentioned that the U.S. government has discussed accumulating a "significant amount" of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, stating that cryptocurrencies "greatly alleviate the pressure on the dollar." At the same time, he urged Congress to pass a "fair version" of the Clarity Act, claiming this would allow the U.S. to lead over China and other countries.Trump also noted that the SEC chairman is working to bring Hyperliquid to the U.S. market in a compliant manner; and reviewed the policy achievements of the signed Genius Act (stablecoin legislation), strategic Bitcoin reserves, and the prohibition of CBDCs.

American Bankers Association: Supports the passage of the CLARITY Act, but the stablecoin reward provisions should be tightened

According to CoinDesk, Rob Nichols, President and CEO of the American Bankers Association (ABA), stated that the goal is to strengthen rather than block the passage of the CLARITY Act. He believes that the digital asset industry needs a clear regulatory framework, but a key provision in the bill regarding stablecoin rewards still needs to be tightened further. Nichols pointed out that the GENIUS Act, set for 2025, has already prohibited stablecoin issuers from paying interest or returns to holders, and the current controversy revolves around whether related parties, such as cryptocurrency exchanges, can offer similar interest-like rewards. He believes that if stablecoin wallets attract bank deposits out through such mechanisms, it could weaken the funding base that banks use for small business loans, housing mortgages, and agricultural financing. The American Bankers Association suggests amending the relevant statements in the bill to prohibit stablecoin rewards that are "substantially similar" to interest payments and to remove certain wording that may cause ambiguity. Nichols stated that these modifications would not prevent crypto companies from offering other reward programs but could avoid the reward mechanism evolving into a disguised form of deposit interest. He also mentioned that the American Bankers Association is pushing for senators to amend the relevant provisions before the vote in September and believes that the U.S. can be both a global banking center and a global crypto center, provided that clear and consistent regulatory rules are established.

The reward range for Gate Card points has been expanded, allowing card usage to unlock gold stablecoins and popular tokenized stock assets

According to official news, Gate will upgrade the Gate Card points reward program on August 14, 2026. After the upgrade, the assets that can be redeemed with Gate Card points will expand from primarily supporting USDT and GT to include USDT, GT, BTC, ETH, GUSD, as well as tokenized stock assets such as NVDAG, AAPLG, GOOGLG, SPCXG, TSLAG, MUG, SNDKG, and SKHYG, corresponding to Nvidia, Apple, Google, SpaceX, Tesla, Micron Technology, SanDisk, and SK Hynix. The newly added tokenized stock assets cover several popular fields such as AI, semiconductors, and consumer technology. After earning points through eligible daily spending, users can redeem mainstream crypto assets like BTC and ETH according to their preferences, or they can redeem corresponding tokenized stock assets like Nvidia, Apple, Tesla, and SpaceX. In addition, Gate Card points will also support the redemption of gold-backed stablecoins (XAUT), effectively enriching users' options for point redemption. The redemption ratio for Gate Card points remains at 100 points = 1 USDT equivalent asset, and points are permanently valid, with other core rules unchanged. Users can still earn cashback points through eligible Gate Card spending, with the cashback ratio continuing to be calculated based on the user's T0--T5 / VIP level. This upgrade will not affect the existing point acquisition mechanism but will provide users with more asset choices at the redemption end, expanding the application scenarios for Gate Card points. By upgrading the points reward program, Gate Card will further connect payment consumption with asset accumulation, offering users richer rights options and a more flexible asset management experience.

first_img GSR Market Director: Many tokenization platforms lack real trading volume, and speculation has exceeded actual usage

According to a report by Cryptonomist, GSR's market director Spencer Hallarn stated in an interview that the hype around tokenization has surpassed the actual usage on many platforms. The issue lies not in the market's demand for tokenized assets, but in the design of the platforms themselves. He pointed out that many walled garden-style tokenization platforms with strict KYC requirements generally lack meaningful trading volume, as cumbersome access and compliance processes limit activity.Hallarn believes that the real opportunity is not in tokenizing for the sake of tokenization, but in fixing the underlying pipelines of traditional banking and settlement systems, specifically the infrastructure for transferring funds and assets between institutions. This would make tokenization more of an infrastructure repair rather than merely a narrative of crypto products. He also mentioned that the stagnation in the crypto market this year is largely due to funds shifting towards AI infrastructure, with large tech companies raising substantial amounts of capital for AI infrastructure through equity financing, tightening the liquidity of various assets, and crypto is no exception. Its clients are also shifting from chasing short-term momentum to long-term budget planning, over-the-counter hedging, and RWA. If AI investment cools down and the Federal Reserve lowers interest rates, liquidity is expected to improve and support Bitcoin prices.
