first_img Mistral collaborates with Saudi PIF's HUMAIN to jointly build sovereign AI infrastructure

The French open-source weight AI laboratory Mistral and the AI company HUMAIN under the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) announced plans to build "sovereign AI" infrastructure in Saudi Arabia and the broader region. According to a joint announcement from both parties, this collaboration is valued at "hundreds of millions of euros" and aims to meet the growing demand for sovereign AI, where data is not controlled by third-party companies, and models can be owned under open weights.Both parties will jointly develop and localize advanced models and deploy AI solutions within Saudi Arabia and the broader region. Mistral is building its computing power layout through its end-to-end infrastructure division, Mistral Compute. This collaboration will allow it to run workloads on local computing power in Saudi Arabia, rather than relying solely on computing power from Europe and the United States. The two sides also plan to conduct joint marketing in regulated industries in Saudi Arabia. The first deliverables will cover cybersecurity and voice fields, involving inference, open models, and cutting-edge Arabic models in the region.HUMAIN has accumulated over a year of construction. In November 2025, it expanded its cooperation with NVIDIA, planning to deploy up to 600,000 of NVIDIA's latest AI systems, including the GB300 platform, within three years; it also reached a data center agreement with xAI, relying on a facility with over 500 MW, and made an agreement with AWS to manage up to 150,000 GPUs in the Riyadh AI Zone. In the same month, HUMAIN, AMD, and Cisco established a joint venture aimed at building up to 1 GW of AI infrastructure by 2030.

Slow Mist Reveals Details of the Allbridge Cross-Chain Bridge Attack: Forged CCTP Messages, Flash Loans, Insufficient Minting Result Verification

The Slow Mist security team disclosed that the cross-chain bridge project Allbridge was attacked on August 19, 2026, resulting in a loss of approximately $190,000. Notably, this attack was not executed instantly; the attacker had begun laying the groundwork nearly a month prior and bypassed the verification mechanism by forging cross-chain messages. According to Slow Mist's analysis, on July 26, the attacker directly called Circle's MessageTransmitterV2.sendMessage function on the Polygon chain, constructing a cross-chain message disguised as a CCTP style message, claiming that a transfer of 1 million USDC existed, but in reality, no USDC destruction operation took place. Subsequently, Circle generated a valid verification proof (attestation) for this complete message according to normal procedures.About 24 days later, on August 19, the attacker waited for the Base Router to receive a real CCTP deposit, increasing the balance to approximately 191,000 USDC, and initiated the attack just 6 seconds later. The attacker utilized the previously forged message and verification proof to call Allbridge's receiveCctpMessage function. Due to the project's lack of critical verification, the system mistakenly recognized the false cross-chain message as a real deposit and recorded a limit of 1 million USDC. The attacker then temporarily borrowed approximately 809,000 USDC through an Aave flash loan, matching the Router balance with the forged amount, and used the internal credit record to call the transfer function, ultimately transferring out approximately 999,000 USDC (after a 0.1% fee). After repaying the flash loan and fees, the attacker netted a profit of about $189,800. The root cause of this vulnerability lies in Allbridge's failure to verify the identities of the sender and receiver of the cross-chain message, as well as not confirming whether USDC was genuinely minted and whether the balance actually increased, instead directly trusting the amounts and message hash data constructed by the attacker. Slow Mist emphasizes that on-chain message verification does not equate to the actual arrival of real assets. Cross-chain protocols not only need to verify the authenticity of messages but must also ensure that the message source is trustworthy, that the receiver is Circle's official TokenMessengerV2, and that asset accounting can only proceed after confirming the actual minting of assets and changes in balance. This incident once again highlights the security risks of cross-chain bridges in the message verification and asset settlement processes.

CryptoQuant founder admits mistake, misinterprets CME positions, leveraged funds still maintain net short positions in BTC

CryptoQuant founder Ki Young Ju posted on the X platform, correcting the previous analysis of CME Bitcoin futures positions, stating that "Total Reportables (large institutional traders)" was mistakenly labeled as "Leveraged Funds," leading to the belief that CME hedge funds rarely turned into net long positions in BTC futures. However, the actual situation is that leveraged funds still maintain net short positions in BTC futures.Ki Young Ju provided CFTC futures position data as of August 4: 1. Large institutional traders overall show a slight net long position, which includes asset management institutions, market makers, dealers, etc. Ki Young Ju stated that although the net long extent is limited, the previous judgment about institutional direction being bullish still holds. 2. Leveraged funds still maintain net short positions in BTC futures, but over the past year, their standard BTC futures net short position has decreased by about 50% (measured in BTC), mainly due to the decline in basis trading returns. When the futures basis returns fell below U.S. Treasury yields, the arbitrage space narrowed. Leveraged funds currently show a net long position in Micro BTC futures, but the scale is small, only about +394 BTC, which is approximately 1% of the standard BTC futures net short position. Ki Young Ju indicated that leveraged funds overall have not yet turned into net long positions, but their long-term structural shorts are clearly weakening, which may reflect the closing of arbitrage trades and adjustments in directional positions.
