first_img Apple's inventory increased by 154% year-on-year, while memory costs continue to rise

Apple's fiscal fourth-quarter results announced on Monday show that the company continues to stockpile inventory, particularly in computer memory. Inventory increased from $11.09 billion in the third quarter to $14.54 billion in the fourth quarter, a quarter-over-quarter increase of 31.1%; year-over-year, it grew 154.3% from $5.72 billion in the fourth quarter of 2025.Apple expects a gross margin of 45% to 46% for the December quarter, primarily affected by higher memory costs, compared to a gross margin of 47.9% in the September quarter. Apple CEO John Ternus stated during the analyst call that current memory pricing is unprecedented. He noted that memory costs in the September quarter were higher than in the June quarter, partially offset by inventory gains and a decrease in some non-memory component costs, and he anticipates that memory costs will rise further in the December quarter.Ternus mentioned that higher costs will be partially offset by price increases on products earlier this year, including price hikes for Mac and iPad at the end of June and for iPhone in September; memory costs will continue to rise after December, and inventory gains will decline over time. To improve supply, manufacturing procurement obligations increased by $33 billion from the June to September quarters. Chief Operating Officer Sabih Khan also attended the call, reiterating the increase in procurement obligations but did not rule out further price increases in the future. Apple attributed weak iPad sales this quarter to supply constraints, with iPad revenue at $6.2 billion, below analyst expectations of $6.7 billion, a year-over-year decline of 10%, while iPhone and Mac sales exceeded expectations.

Ledger confirmed that affected user devices have unauthorized hardware implants, and the dealer CryptoBilis has suspended inventory sales

They are currently contacting the affected user and continuing to investigate the matter. Ledger is calling on anyone with information to provide leads and has stated that it is cooperating with relevant law enforcement agencies to hold those involved accountable. As a precaution, CryptoBilis has confirmed the suspension of sales of all hardware wallet inventory until the investigation is complete, and Ledger is actively communicating with them regarding follow-up measures.Ledger stated that there are currently no signs that its security infrastructure, systems, or services have been compromised. For users who purchased Ledger devices from this dealer, if the initialization setup has not yet been completed, it is advised not to start the setup; if the setup has been completed, they should consider transferring assets to a new Ledger signing device using new recovery phrases.Ledger emphasizes that security threats are constantly evolving, and the company is continuously improving security measures and advancing more sophisticated tamper-proof solutions. It also reminds users to be vigilant against scams that take advantage of this situation and to obtain the latest information only through official Ledger channels. first_img Korean brokerage warns that Samsung and SK Hynix have less than 10 days of memory inventory

KB Securities warned that the inventory of memory semiconductors at Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix has fallen to less than 10 days of supply, and the available supply next year will be significantly insufficient. The agency reported on Monday that investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure is expanding at an unprecedented pace, leading to a severe supply shortage in the memory chip market. A key factor is the transition to HBM4, which requires about three times the wafers of traditional DRAM, and limited wafer capacity will reduce the available capacity of traditional DRAM.KB Securities expects that next year, the demand for DRAM and NAND will exceed supply by more than 10 percentage points. Research director Kim Dong-won stated that artificial intelligence servers will consume HBM, server DDR5, and enterprise-grade solid-state drives, potentially leading to a historic shortage. Global hyperscale data center operators have raised their expectations for artificial intelligence infrastructure investment next year to $1.3 trillion, a 60% increase from the previous year. The agency anticipates that memory semiconductors will account for 57% of total investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure next year, up from 14% last year, with TrendForce estimating this ratio could reach as high as 68%. Samsung Electronics' stock price has dropped nearly 28% from its peak, while SK Hynix has fallen nearly 40%.
