Ripple plans to introduce an institutional-level lending protocol on XRPL, allowing tokenized assets to be used as collateral for financing

XRPLRipple is actively promoting the addition of a layer of lending infrastructure on the XRP Ledger (XRPL), enabling institutions to use on-chain tokenized assets as collateral for financing, while the loan terms are automatically executed by the protocol, with credit assessments and lending decisions still made by off-chain institutions.According to reports, the proposal is named the XRPL Lending Protocol (corresponding to the XLS-65 and XLS-66 standards), which is currently still in the technical draft stage and must be approved through validator voting before it can go live on the mainnet, but it is already available for developer testing on the test network. The design of the protocol splits the lending process into two parts: on-chain mechanisms responsible for fund pool management, interest calculation, repayment execution, and default handling; while borrower credit assessments and loan term settings remain with traditional financial institutions to meet compliance requirements in different jurisdictions.Ripple states that this mechanism is primarily aimed at institutional short-term liquidity needs, such as in cross-border payment scenarios, where temporary financing is obtained through stablecoins or collateralized assets before settlement, to enhance capital efficiency.Analysts believe that this solution attempts to introduce a "rule-based lending infrastructure" similar to traditional finance while maintaining the open network attributes of XRPL, but it still faces competition from established on-chain lending protocols like Aave, Compound, and Maple.

Data: On-chain tokenized RWA scale surged 589% to $31.4 billion, accelerating the institutionalization process

The latest report from Binance Research shows that the on-chain tokenization of real-world assets (RWA) has grown by 589% since the beginning of 2025, now exceeding $31.4 billion, further expanding from $21.5 billion at the beginning of 2026, and growing approximately fivefold since the beginning of 2025. The main drivers of growth come from bonds and money market funds, which together added about $6.5 billion, an increase of 83%. Tokenized U.S. Treasury bonds, money market funds, gold-backed assets, and tokenized listed stocks are the main driving forces behind this round of growth. Although the base for tokenized stocks is relatively small, the growth rate is particularly remarkable, indicating that issuing institutions are testing whether blockchain tracks can support the circulation of a broader range of traditional securities.Analysts point out that this round of RWA growth differs from the previous narrative of the crypto market dominated by speculative trading or DeFi yields, and is more closely linked to traditional financial infrastructure, focusing on institutional needs such as settlement efficiency, collateral liquidity, and programmable asset services. However, compared to the global bond, money fund, and stock markets, which are worth tens of trillions of dollars, $31.4 billion is still a drop in the bucket. The report indicates that the key to the next phase of growth lies not in the issuance of tokens themselves, but in the improvement of liquidity depth, legal enforceability, custody standards, and access to secondary markets. The regulatory framework remains the core bottleneck restricting further expansion of scale.

Bank of New York Mellon: FOMO sentiment is driving asset management companies to accelerate their layout of tokenized ETFs

According to The Block, Ben Slavin, the global ETF head at Bank of New York Mellon (BNY), stated that asset managers are accelerating their tokenized ETF plans, driven mainly by investor demand and the FOMO sentiment of fearing to miss early opportunities in blockchain finance. Slavin revealed that BNY has multiple tokenized ETF projects underway, and although the regulatory environment and infrastructure are not yet fully ready, many clients wish to launch products as soon as possible. He believes that blockchain networks are expected to become a new distribution channel for traditional investment products, enabling around-the-clock holding and transfer of fund shares, shortening settlement times, and expanding coverage for global investors.Slavin also pointed out that currently, hundreds of well-known ETFs are trading in tokenized form in unregulated markets, and most of these have not been directly authorized by the fund sponsors, which poses reputational risks. This topic has become a focal point for discussions among BNY's asset management clients. Although the industry is still exploring core issues such as the integration of tokenized funds with existing infrastructure, secondary trading mechanisms, and regulatory frameworks, Slavin stated that asset managers are increasingly inclined to believe that "getting in early" in this field is more important than "waiting for clarity."

Asset management company Baillie Gifford, in collaboration with BNY, launched an on-chain fixed income tokenized fund, deploying on both ETH and Solana chains

According to CoinDesk, the long-established asset management company Baillie Gifford from Edinburgh, Scotland (founded over 118 years ago) announced on Monday in collaboration with global custodian giant BNY the launch of a tokenized fixed income fund—Baillie Gifford Enhanced Yield Fund (BAGEY), deployed simultaneously on the Ethereum and Solana public chains. The fund is denominated in US dollars and operates under an open-ended investment company (OEIC) structure within the UK regulatory framework, targeting qualified investors from the UK, Switzerland, and the Cayman Islands. It offers an actively managed short-duration corporate bond portfolio, with a current yield of approximately 7%.Unlike most tokenized products on the market, Baillie Gifford's Head of Digital Assets Theo Golden emphasized that BAGEY is not a traditional fund wrapped in a token shell, but rather a fund issued directly on-chain, with the blockchain itself serving as the rights registry, allowing investors to directly hold shares and enjoy direct recourse.BNY will provide tokenization and wallet infrastructure for the fund, with NatWest acting as the custodian. The Global Head of Investor Solutions at BNY stated that this issuance marks the transition of tokenization from concept to real application, as regulated fund structures evolve towards a more digital and interconnected market.

Benchmark: The SEC's market structure reform may become the most critical variable for cryptocurrency regulation this year, benefiting tokenized stocks and AMM trading

According to The Block, investment bank Benchmark pointed out in its latest research report that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) proposed to repeal Rule 611 and Rule 610(e) of Regulation NMS, which could become the "most decisive regulatory change" affecting the market structure of cryptocurrencies and tokenized assets in 2026.The proposal was announced on June 11 and aims to eliminate trading protection and quote constraint rules that have been in place for nearly 20 years in the U.S. stock market. The SEC stated that this move is intended to reduce trading costs and provide greater space for market competition and technological innovation.Benchmark's analysis believes that the current Rule 611 (order protection rule) requires trades to adhere to the National Best Bid and Offer (NBBO), while Rule 610(e) restricts "locked/crossed quotes." These mechanisms are effective in traditional matching systems but create structural constraints for automated market maker (AMM) models in decentralized finance (DeFi).The report pointed out that if the relevant rules are repealed, it will significantly lower the compliance barriers for tokenized stocks and on-chain trading systems, making AMM-based trading models easier to access the U.S. capital market system. In terms of potential beneficiaries, Benchmark specifically mentioned Securitize, believing that it will benefit most directly as a provider of tokenized securities infrastructure, while Coinbase and Galaxy Digital will also benefit from the expansion of trading, market-making, and custody infrastructure. However, the report also emphasized that the rule adjustments do not address all core issues, such as the exchange registration system, custody and clearing framework, and the legal positioning of DeFi-native trading still needs further clarification. The industry generally expects that the subsequent "innovation exemption mechanism" will become a key supporting policy. The SEC has currently opened a 60-day public comment period on the proposal, and the market anticipates that the final vote may take place in early 2027.

Coinbase executives: Integrating derivatives, tokenized securities, DeFi, and stablecoins into a unified financial platform

According to a report by TheStreet Roundtable, Coinbase's Head of Institutional Sales, John D'Agostino, stated in an interview at the New York Stock Exchange that Coinbase is committed to migrating the existing financial infrastructure from the outdated ledger system of decades ago to a faster, cheaper, and more stable blockchain ledger, with the goal of becoming a fully functional integrated financial platform in the crypto space.D'Agostino pointed out that Coinbase's current growth mainly comes from four directions: first, derivatives; the company acquired the world's largest crypto options exchange, Deribit, for $2.9 billion last year, becoming a market leader in this field; second, tokenized securities; approximately 20 stocks have been tokenized and are continuously expanding, with assets like REITs included in the tokenization scope, claiming the market size is about $15 trillion; third, DeFi; Coinbase has become the official USDC treasury deployer for the Hyperliquid platform, with about $5 billion USDC in revenue used for repurchasing HYPE tokens on the platform; fourth, stablecoins; continuously deepening the coverage of USDC in the on-chain market. He summarized Coinbase's positioning as, "The safest custody for crypto assets is our foundational moat, while hyper-fast growth comes from tokenizing everything and creating universal applications."
