The U.S. Department of Justice announced that it has seized over $560,000 in cryptocurrency originally intended to fund Hamas and has taken control of the domain names and servers used by the organization for fundraising and recruiting supporters. The Department of Justice released five affidavits along with the announcement on Wednesday, three of which were signed on March 25, June 25, and October 10, 2025, regarding the seizure order for the aforementioned $560,000 in cryptocurrency.According to court documents, investigators identified and tracked rotating cryptocurrency addresses promoted through encrypted group chats and fundraising websites with the help of human intelligence sources. The first actions recovered approximately $201,400 from wallets and accounts, which have transferred over $1.5 million since October 2024, with the related addresses allegedly controlled by Hamas's military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades.Additionally, the FBI seized the domain name and servers used to operate the organization's main website Alqassam.ps, allowing them to intercept subsequent cryptocurrency donations. The Department of Justice stated that this operation enabled investigators to obtain information on thousands of individuals who contacted Hamas-related platforms, attempting to donate via cryptocurrency or traditional payment methods.

first_img Meta tests robots handling data center work, raising concerns about layoffs

Meta is testing robots for maintaining its artificial intelligence system data centers, including machines for replacing network cables, rebooting servers, and inspecting equipment. According to WIRED, Meta has tested robots from San Francisco's Watney Robotics, Quebec's Kinova, and Zurich's ABB to reduce labor costs. An employee estimated that a successful cable replacement robot could replace up to 80% of the work in certain positions, but the machine currently cannot match human speed.Meta's robotics program has raised concerns, with employees believing that automation may reduce the demand for experienced technicians and shift remaining work to low-wage positions operated by AI instructions. A Meta spokesperson stated that the U.S. is experiencing the largest infrastructure boom since World War II, with a severe shortage of skilled workers, and the company needs more workers, not fewer. Currently, robots still require human supervision and face challenges with obstacles, battery life, visual inspections, and handling dense cabling.Nvidia and Alibaba are also developing systems to improve robot training. ACE Robotics Chairman Wang Xiaogang stated that embodied AI could experience a "ChatGPT moment" by the end of 2027. Additionally, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates proposed taxing robots and AI tokens, believing that the current tax system may make machines cheaper than employees.

first_img Unitree's stock price has fallen about 45% from its peak after going public, raising concerns about a bubble

According to a report by Reuters, after the Chinese robot manufacturer Unitree was listed on the Shanghai Star Market, its stock price has cumulatively dropped about 45% from the peak on its first day of trading. The market value once soared to $66 billion before retreating by about $30 billion, raising concerns about bubble risks, retail investor losses, and the IPO mechanism. On its first day of listing, it closed up 460%, far exceeding the average first-day increase of 226% for new stocks in China over the past three years, and then fell for three consecutive days, with the stock price stabilizing somewhat on Tuesday.Unitree is one of the world's leading manufacturers of quadruped and humanoid robots, capable of performing actions such as running, dancing, and martial arts, but broader commercialization remains limited, competing with companies like Tesla and Boston Dynamics. The prospectus shows that the adjusted net profit for the first quarter of 2026 decreased by 53% year-on-year to 40 million yuan, and there are also signs of profit slowing in the first half of the year. The company was listed through a fast-track process on the Star Market, which may set a precedent for other domestic peers.Analysts point out that investors are driven by the "technology revolution narrative," and the first-day performance reflects market sentiment. The discrepancy between IPO pricing and opening price indicates that at least one party is misaligned; there are also views that the rise is more due to motives for raising prices for unloading, with short selling being restricted and retail investors exacerbating volatility. Some institutions believe that robot companies have high R&D investments and that orders have not yet been realized on a large scale, making it inappropriate to focus solely on short-term profits, similar to the early electric vehicle industry.
