first_img Trump said that stock trading is for America, not for himself

On September 6, local time, U.S. President Trump posted on the social platform Truth Social, stating that he earned "hundreds of billions of dollars" for the United States through stocks and holding various other assets, and he expressed, "I do this for our country, not for myself." The post also mentioned that the only response he received was criticism from the radical left "foolish Democrats."According to a previous report by Reuters, information from the U.S. Office of Government Ethics shows that Trump disclosed personal securities transactions totaling at least $220 million and up to about $750 million in the first three months of 2026. Annual financial documents released by the U.S. Office of Government Ethics indicate that Trump's total income for 2025 was at least $2.2 billion, far exceeding his income of about $622 million in 2024 when he had not returned to the White House. On the same day, Trump also shared an AI-generated image, which appeared to show him trading in the Oval Office, with the screen displaying Intel's stock price rising from $20 to $95. In August of last year, the U.S. federal government invested about $8.9 billion to purchase a 9.9% stake in Intel at a price of $20.47 per share; CNBC reported that on September 4, 2026, the company's stock closed at $95.80. A White House spokesperson stated that all stock transactions under Trump's name are conducted by external financial managers, and Trump and his family have no control over specific trading decisions.
